Carol Zuch - Library 20 years

I have worked with Grant on a variety of Green Team activities for the last four years and am impressed with his energy, intelligence, and integrity. Of his many qualities, the ones I find most refreshing his strong sense of social justice and a commitment to consensus-based solutions. As leader of and advocate for Local 88, I have no doubt that he would fight strongly for its members and their rights, but in a fair, ethical, and collaborative way.

As a co-worker of Grant's for almost 6 years, I have always found Grant exemplary in his duties as our union representative and working beside him.  I know Grant to always be working on suggestions that can improve tasks set for everyone while completing his own.

Stacy Laramie-Moss - Library 14 years

I have worked with Grant both at Central Library and on the Library's Environmental Team. As a co-worker (and Union rep) he was diligent, hardworking and helpful.
As the LET Chair (the 1st one our newly formed group ever had!) he proved to be super knowledgable, totally democratic & ultra-competent @ helping us navigate various bureaucratic channels, develop group guidelines/mission statements, solicit and obtain mgmt support and roll out new ideas to make the library better for both patrons and staff.
I believe he has developed solid leadership skills & I believe he would be an eager and effective VP in our local 88.

Outside Local 88 Endorsements:

For as long as we have known Grant Swanson, we have understood him to be a man of great principal.  He has exemplified a strong union leader because he is so pro-union.  He has always been motivated to get involved in the union, and has motivated others to do the same by way of his energy and charisma.  He is a progressive thinker who wants to collaborate with others for change that would benefit all members as well as the community.  Grant is not only a man true to his word, but someone who will fight for those who may feel their voice is not as strong as it otherwise could be.  Grant will hear the voices of his constituents and bring them forth with wisdom beyond his years.  Furthermore, Grant appreciates and respects the history of the labor movement.  He will continue to fight for this legacy because, simply, it is his passion.

For these reason, we wholeheartedly endorse Grant Swanson as our Local 88 Executive Board Vice President.  We hope you will join us in supporting the candidacy of such a dynamic leader to the office of Vice President.

I feel that Grant Swanson would be an excellent choice for Vice President of Local 88. I have met him at several AFSCME functions. I spoke with him most recently at the AFSCME leadership conference in Canyonville on September 25, 26, and 27. He is clearly very intelligent and energetic. He has the qualities and experience needed to get the job done in such a large local.

I’ve known Grant for several years and am quite pleased to offer my endorsement of him. Grant is articulate, passionate, and committed towards making the world a better place.  There is no question of his dedication in regards to sustainability issues and social justice.

I always enjoy talking with Grant -even more so when we have varying viewpoints- because he always has an informed and unique opinion and I’m better off as a result.

I’ve worked with Grant on resolutions, council committees, and at conventions and conferences. He has demonstrated leadership and vision that’s not common.

In the few years that I've known Grant, I continue to be impressed with his plethora of knowledge on a broad spectrum of important issues, from health care, to the environment, to politics, to labor history, and union activism...among many other things. Grant's passion for advocating for a better workplace, community, and country is evident to me as I've observed and interacted with you when we participate in AFSCME trainings, conventions, and leadership events. Grant politely, though firmly, speaks up and takes actions for causes he believes in, and I admire that about Grant. I am confident that Grant will represent others well and you would certainly get my vote if I were a member of your local. I wish Grant the best of luck. We get what we give, so I'm sure you're on the right path.

In unity,
